MAJOR NAME CHANGES
FAMILY-GROUP NAMES
USED VS. PRESENT NAMES

Killi-Data
online  offers special lists for aquarists to help them to update their labelling of names of Killifish: list of valid species names and their aquarium populations, list of valid species names today accepted in comparison with their equivalents in hobbyists' basic books. Killi-Data online  is far being only a website on Killifish nomenclature : tips on where, how, what to collect in all countries, quizzes, faq's, state-of-the-art feedback on current research, conservation issues, newsletters and flashes for new species and publications (all free).

Killi-Data online is a major extension and a permanently updated web version of the book entitled:
"Killi-Data. Updated checklist of taxonomic names, collecting localities and bibliographic references of oviparous Cyprinodontiformes fishes", published in French, English, German, Spanish and Portuguese, in 1994, 1996, 2000, 2007.
Killi-Data online yearly provides with a printed list of valid names with aquarium populations as "POCKET KILLI-DATA", for aquarists and available in at least 6 languages through Killifish Associations only, since 2004 (Edition 2008: published !).

Killi-Data online is however very different from the Killi-Data book in its structure and encompasses 2 parts:

  • News, services and information designed mainly for aquarists, available freely for guests visitors, only with their e-mail as courtesy (help : HOBBYISTS' ISSUES, TRUE QUESTIONS and GRANT AND COLLECTING TRIP, last update : January 6. 2006)

  • The Data Base with all scientific and aquaristic information and photos for each species or genus, only available to registered users, after registration process in guest section. KILLI-ABSTRACT, a new service from April 1. 2005 : Major abstracts online, immediately upon notice

Killi-Data online supports Google automatic translation into 5 languages for the whole 'Guest' section
(official language is English, only ; to choose another language, please click first on selected flag, then enter your Email) :

MISSION statement
Killi-Data is all about fish that are so important to ichthyologists, biologists, aquarists, ecologists and behaviourists,
because of their unique beauties and characteristics and because Killifish are critical tools to malaria control.
If you are a new comer to Killifishes, discover their SPECIFICITIES,
and (only available in English version) their BEAUTIES, their BIOTOPES and BEHAVIOURS.
Killi-Data is a cooperative platform on Killifish.
If you have enjoyed this site, please consider helping the author fund it by using the links hereby, plus those of Amazon.com in the KILLIFISH BOOK review.

Killi-Data presents a list of all taxa (used versus present names) of Killifish that are covered in Killi-Data online,
whenever they are available or not, valid or not. To check a current name, click on the global SEARCH list.
Killi-Data aims to present all available information on Killies or oviparous Cyprinodont fishes.
Killi-Data compiles state of the art knowledge, wherever it sources from, scientist or aquarist.
Killi-Data is evidence based, not opinion based. If conflicting results arise from distinct phylogenetic methods, then a compromise is selected that purports the maximum of results, ending up in a splitting way as most taxonomic works, today.
Killi-Data is a non-profit venture that redistributes all financial benefits, the major part being attributed to young scientists or collectors to support research on oviparous Cyprinodont fishes or Killies.
Killi-Data strongly encourages cooperation between ichthyologists, either professional or amateur, and aquarists to build a cooperative community of interest and knowledge.

Killi-Data, like all information on this website, is protected by ETHICS AND COPYRIGHTS.

TECHNICALITIES
Killi-Data
online has been optimised for Internet Explorer (not for Mozilla Firefox 1.0.)
Killi-Data contains JavaScripts, extensively: make sure your computer is compatible.
The Data Base is only available after registration (freely for amateur or professional researchers, petfish publishers, contributors and owners of the book Killi-Data 2007 or, otherwise, against a modest fee). The Data Base contains Frames : make sure your computer is compatible, before registration.
Killi-Data online is officially edited in English : the Google translation tool is practical and very useful, but not perfect (notably scientific names are reversed) : make sure to use the English version for any quotation or analysis of the website.
